Surrealism or ???

My art subject matter and style has shifted lately. I was on a path of trying to learn to paint as close to realistic as possible. However, my eye and my heart are more attracted to impressionism. Painting loosely allows more color creativity and an opportunity to suggest details or shapes rather than push the image to become photographic in its own way. This loose style suits me and has become a joyful expression of bringing images to life. The subject matter has been chosen based on commission or entries for shows, etc., and the effort to make them as realistic as possible pushed me to learn new techniques. For that I am grateful.

All the while over the past few years, while painting what others wanted, I have been longing to paint what is hiding in the dark places of my mind. The sketches I have enjoyed doing since I was a child are anthropomorphic, surreal and amusing. The time has come for the sketches to become paintings, and for my other side to be released.
