The desert holds many contrasts, like the light and shadow late in the afternoon. Or the tenacity of plants and animals that have an amazing will to survive, some with deadly defense attributes, others with simple beauty and vulnerability. This painting is from a photo I took at Sunnylands in Rancho Mirage, California. The gardens there are beautiful and the setting is perfect for finding the contrasts that move me.
