Letting go

I have given up on so many projects that were just not going right. I sometimes paint over them, or delete them, or just let them sit because I can’t part with them. Such is the story behind this painting. What was in my head and the end result were not easily synched. This has been the longest unfinished painting for me so far.

I started out without any reference, and was winging it for shape, form and anatomy. The horse turned out all wrong and the girl ended up longer than natural. I worked it and worked it, until I finally decided to just complete the thing and let it go. The sealer I used was too old and thick, so I further disappointed myself with the outcome. Regardless, the symbology I am trying to convey is something that I hope shines through. What do you see in this painting?
